Suitable for all voices, this song cycle "Three Poems of David Brooks" was inspired by the poetry of Australian writer David Brooks. The three poems used in this song cycle came from David’s anthology "The Cold Front". In this instance, David's poems are written in the manner of the 'deep image' poets of America. "The Cold Front" represents a journey by the poet through the darker side of his nature; however, within the poetry we see tremendous beauty and hope.
The three poems selected for the song cycle, "Here", "The Dead" and "Explanation", bind the piece into a coherent whole. Emotionally the songs represent fear and acceptance, fear and mystery, joy, relief and irony.
