“4 Pieces for Flute and Guitar” is a collection of short pieces written in a more contemporary style. The pieces can be played together or as individual items. (This publication is identical to that which appears on this website under the banner of “Instrumental -> Woodwind - Single with Piano” ).
The pieces presented here also have arrangements for Flute and Piano; and as well as the flute parts, versions have been written for variously: Bb Clarinet, Oboe and Soprano Saxophone. Piece “No. 3” also has versions for Cor Anglais, Oboe d’Amore, Bassoon and Alto Saxophone. These works are suitable for players of intermediate and above skill.
No. 1 is in a sort of question and answer style, separating and coming together again.
No. 2 is a quasi canon with the instruments following each other.
No. 3 is a slow interplay between the instruments, with the guitar sustaining groups of dissident intervals. This expands as the piece progresses to encompass a more consonant aesthetic.
No. 4 is in a fast tempo and exhibits direct counterpoint between the flute and guitar bass. The piece is driven by a tremolo figure in the guitar’s middle register.
