“Thoughts” Audio Sample
“Thoughts for Flute and Guitar” is an uneasy and confronting work; and is from a collection of five works for flute and guitar titled “Happenstance”. There is also an arrangement for Flute and Piano; and as well as the flute part, versions have been written for: Bb Clarinet, Oboe and Soprano Saxophone. This work is suitable for players of intermediate and above level.
The parts include ‘count-in notes’, which aid the performer to keep the tempo when playing against a prerecorded piano accompaniment MP3 file. These added notes would never be included when performing with a live pianist.
The reverie of “Thoughts” is structured in an ABA form. The flute weaves a lyrical thread around and through the unusual harmonic accompaniment. The accompaniment at times, presents as soft and dissonant.
