"Chromatic Study" from Pieces for Piano-Vol. III Audio Sample
This publication is "Pieces for Piano - Complete Set", which is an eclectic collection of piano pieces written over many years. Most of the pieces are short in length and can thus be learned in a short time frame.
There are various degrees of difficulty and there is a large variation in style. Many of the pieces, such as "The Windmill", were designed to help learn particular technical skills. Other pieces, such as the "THe Roses", were for my own amusement.
"Pieces for Piano" allows the player to explore a myriad of different styles. From the modal "Chant", whole tone "The Windmill", one 5-bar piece four ways (major, minor, whole tone and diminished) "Success Series", the more modern "Uncertain Progress", the chromatic "Chromatic Study" and more contemporary "Dialogue", there is an aesthetic for everyone.
There are pieces to enhance technique such as the 2 against 3 of "The Windmill", or the melody over arpeggio style of "Morning Song" or the polyrhythmic "Adrift on the Sea". There is the perpetual motion of "Baby Michael Can't Stop" and the balletic buffoonery of "The Royal Bridal Waltz". There is, as well, a homage to Serge Prokoffiev "SergePro Playing on his Toy Piano".
