Fractal 1 Audio Sample
"Fractal 1" attempts to musically investigate chaos and Chaos Theory, where topographically, the very small and the very large, are closely related. This piece was played on ABC FM, 3MBS Fm (Melb.) and at New music gatherings in Perth. Each time Composer Roger Smalley heard this piece he asked me if the final melody referenced the spontaneity within the bulk of the piece. At the time of asking I'd forgotten, but have since been back to the score and checked. As usual, he was correct! - the melody follows the central defined pitches around which the spontaneous aleatoric performances were recorded.
